Agricultural Research and Life Technology Labs (ARLT Labs, Bahawalpur)

Established in 2015, ARLT LABS played a crucial role in advancing agricultural practices and research in the region, building on the foundation set by the Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute.

Crop Varieties

Crop varieties refer to different cultivars or strains of crops that have been developed through breeding or genetic modification to possess specific desirable traits. These traits can include disease resistance, high yield, tolerance to environmental stresses (like drought or cold), improved nutritional content, or better suitability for specific growing conditions.

Crop varieties are important in agriculture because they allow farmers to choose plants that are optimized for their particular region, climate, and farming practices. This can lead to increased productivity, reduced losses due to pests or diseases, and improved food security.

Rice

Varieties like Jasmine rice, Basmati rice, and Arborio rice differ in grain size, flavor, and cooking characteristics.

Wheat

Varieties such as Durum wheat (used for pasta), Bread wheat (used for baking bread), and Spelt (an ancient variety) vary in gluten content and protein quality.

Maize (Corn)

Varieties like Dent corn (used for animal feed and processed foods), Sweet corn (eaten fresh), and Popcorn (popped for snacks) have different kernel types and uses.
